Meet Cacica

Gender: Female

Age: 11

Common Name: Bottlenose Dolphin

Scientific Name: Tursiops truncatus

Parents: Calusa / Razzle (Sea World)

Birth Date: February 24, 2015

Defining Trait: Trailing edge of dorsal fin has a ruffle like a lasagna noodle (like her mom Calusa!), and a wide, short face and rostrum.

My Story: Cacica was named after a title given to strong female leaders in Native American tribes. She is a leader, mastering all of her behaviors in short order, and is a star of all of our interactive programs as well. Gregarious, happy, and focused on mastering tasks, it amazes us that while her aunt Pandora often nursed her for the first year of her life, the genetics of her mother Calusa are what has determined her personality. She excels at pretty much everything, including the lexigrams: flashcards that represent different behaviors. Cacica loves to select her own behavior by touching the lexigram! One of her favorite behaviors is her hurdle jump. With her trainer holding a target pole above the water, Cacica gets to build up speed and fly over it with great enthusiasm.
