Community Supports Switlik Class Visits to Dolphin Research Center
Grassy Key, FL – Thanks to the generous support of the Marathon community, students from Stanley Switlik Elementary School are participating in a unique school-wide marine science program with Dolphin Research Center (DRC). Individuals and businesses “adopted” all 31 classes at Switlik, providing each with $125 to cover the expense of bus transportation to visit DRC. At the facility, the classes receive a tour to see and learn more about the dolphins and sea lions and also take part in other educational activities, geared to their grade level. On other days, DRC staff members visit the students at school for outreach presentations and walking field experiences. All of the lessons are tied to National, State, and Common Core standards.
“This is a wonderful partnership between the local community, Stanley Switlik Elementary and Dolphin Research Center,” says Rita Irwin, DRC’s President and CEO. “We are excited to team up with our neighbors to provide this educational opportunity to local students.”
