Our Animal Family

Common Name: Bottlenose Dolphin

Scientific Name: Tursiops Truncatus

Parents: Unknown / Unknown

Birth Date: Estimated birth 2020

Defining Trait: Dorsal fin leans dramatically to his right, and it has a scalloped trailing edge.

My Story: Ranger was rescued by Texas State Aquarium in June of 2021, on Goose Island off the coast of Corpus Christi.  His mom had died and Ranger, too young to have learned survival skills, was placed at DRC by the National Marine Fisheries Service. Calusa became his adopted mother, taking him under her flipper and nurturing the young dolphin. Appropriately, Calusa's nickname is Goose, which was Ranger's name briefly - and she has a scalloped dorsal fin just like his! Ranger is all boy, rambunctious, bold, curious and eager to learn!

Nicknames: Rangeman, Little Goose

Our Mission - Through education, research and rescue, Dolphin Research Center promotes peaceful coexistence, cooperation and communication between marine mammals, humans and the environment we share with the well being of DRC's animals taking precedence.
