Our Animal Family

Common Name: Bottlenose Dolphin

Scientific Name: Tursiops truncatus

Parents: Cathi (Miami Seaquarium)/Papi (Miami Seaquarium)

Birth Date: November 6, 1986

My Story: Samantha is a kind-hearted and gentle dolphin whose calm presence guides those around her. She has a go-with-the-flow personality that balances perfectly with her lively, joyful vocalizations that echo across the lagoons. Blind in one eye, Samantha navigates the world with grace, patience, and warmth, teaching by example what it means to lead with kindness. Samantha is a dolphin who inspires and comforts those around her, nurturing and helping babies and young dolphins. Affectionately called “Sammy Jammy” or “JamJar,” her sweet nature, calm leadership, and generous heart make her beloved by everyone who knows her. Samantha is a dolphin whose charm, calm, and generosity of spirit are impossible not to adore.

Out of an abundance of caution, our newest animal family members are currently unviewable while they complete a 30-day quarantine. This time allows them to settle in comfortably and helps keep both them and our other animals safe. We are so excited for you to see our family when they become viewable!

Nicknames: Sammy Jammy, Jam Jar

Our Mission - Through education, research and rescue, Dolphin Research Center promotes peaceful coexistence, cooperation and communication between marine mammals, humans and the environment we share with the well being of DRC's animals taking precedence.
