Our Animal Family

Common Name: Harbor Seal

Scientific Name: Phoca vitulina

Parents: Sandy (Gulf World)/Gregg (Gulf World)

Birth Date: May 15, 2010

My Story: Cane is a harbor seal with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Born at Miami Seaquarium after his parents moved there, Cane is the brother of Ace and his closest companion in the pinniped pool. Fiercely independent despite being blind, Cane never lets anything slow him down, confidently leading the way in play and exploration. Playful, mischievous, and bossy in the funniest ways, he keeps his brother and trainers wrapped around his flippers while ensuring every moment is on his terms. Cane’s cleverness, confidence, and affectionate heart make him a truly unforgettable seal whose personality shines as brightly as his bond with Ace.

Out of an abundance of caution, our newest animal family members are currently unviewable while they complete a 30-day quarantine. This time allows them to settle in comfortably and helps keep both them and our other animals safe. We are so excited for you to see our family when they become viewable!

Our Mission - Through education, research and rescue, Dolphin Research Center promotes peaceful coexistence, cooperation and communication between marine mammals, humans and the environment we share with the well being of DRC's animals taking precedence.
